Okay, I’m probably not the best person to talk on behalf of Microsoft’s consumers as I don’t actually touch anything Microsoft apart from Internet Explorer to test sites in. The reason I’m not is because of this same question that remains unanswered. Why won’t they listen to consumers? In particular web developers: Why does Outlook not support all CSS and why doesn’t IE follow W3C standards?

It’s really easy to get the position of an element relative to it’s parent element, but what if you wanted to get it’s position relative to the entire page (viewport)? There’s no javascript call to do this, but here is a function to get the elements x & y coordinates.

IE transparency/opacity issues.
Recently I came across some issues with Internet Explorers transparency. When I applied transparency to a div on one of my sites with the IE CSS it didn’t apply any transparency. There was no problems with the code, it was all correct, IE just didn’t want to apply the transparency.

Small height divs in Internet Explorer
If you want to make a div of a height smaller then around 10px, often in Internet Explorer will not make the div any smaller than around 12px. This is a real pain if you want to use div’s to create lines and various other things. Thankfully I’m here to tell you how to get around this problem.

How to remove the gap underneath images in IE
Internet Explorer has a terrible habit of putting gaps underneath images if you have a space after the image code. It’s quite annoying when trying to line images up on top of each other and keep your code neat. Thankfully there’s an easy fix!
